GPS Coordinate Converter — Decimal, DMS, DDM & UTM

Convert GPS coordinates between every common format instantly: decimal degrees (DD), degrees-minutes-seconds (DMS), degrees decimal minutes (DDM) and UTM (WGS84). Paste coordinates in any style — 27.7172, 85.3240, 27°43'2"N 85°19'26"E, even a whole Google Maps link — and get all formats at once with one-tap copy buttons, the point shown on a map, and direct open-in-Google-Maps/OpenStreetMap links. You can also pick a point on the map or use your own GPS position.

Coordinate formats explained

Decimal degrees (DD)27.7172, 85.3240 — the format apps, websites and GeoJSON use; south and west are negative. DMS27°43'2"N 85°19'26"E — the traditional format on printed maps, deeds and citizenship documents. DDM27°43.03'N — used by marine and aviation GPS units. UTM — zone + easting/northing in metres (Nepal spans zones 44R and 45R) — used in surveying and engineering because distances are in metres. Note that Nepal's Napi (survey) office uses MUTM on the Everest datum, which differs from standard WGS84 UTM by a few hundred metres.

What people use it for

Filling land and survey forms that want DMS while your phone gives decimal; converting a Google Maps pin into coordinates for a drone flight plan or GIS software; reading old documents with DMS values into a modern app; sharing an exact spot with someone using a different device; and checking which UTM zone a site falls in for engineering work.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Which input formats are accepted?

Decimal ("27.7172, 85.3240" — with or without N/E letters), DMS or DDM with °'" symbols or plain spaces ("27 43 2 N 85 19 26 E"), and Google Maps URLs containing coordinates. Press Convert and every format is produced at once.

How do I convert my current location?

Press My location and allow location access — your GPS position appears in all four formats with its accuracy shown.

Is the UTM output the same as Nepal survey (MUTM) coordinates?

No — this tool outputs standard UTM on WGS84, the international standard used by GPS devices. Nepal's cadastral maps use MUTM on the Everest 1830 datum, which is offset by roughly 300 m; converting between them needs official datum parameters.

Are my coordinates uploaded anywhere?

No. Parsing and conversion are pure JavaScript in your browser. Only the background map tiles are loaded from OpenStreetMap.

How accurate is the conversion?

Mathematically exact for format conversion (DD↔DMS↔DDM), and centimetre-level for UTM using the standard series expansion — far beyond GPS accuracy itself.
