What is the compound interest formula?

A = P(1 + r/n)n·t, where P is the principal, r is the annual rate as a decimal, n is how many times interest compounds per year, and t is the number of years. The compound interest earned is A − P.

What is the difference between simple and compound interest?

Simple interest is always calculated on the original principal only, so it grows in a straight line. Compound interest is added to the balance each period, so later interest is earned on earlier interest — it grows faster, and the gap widens the longer you stay invested.

How does compounding frequency change the result?

The more often interest compounds, the more you earn from the same rate. At 10%, one lakh over five years grows to about रु १,६१,०५१ compounded yearly but रु १,६४,५३१ compounded monthly. The effective annual rate shown in the results captures this difference.

What is the effective annual rate (EAR)?

The effective annual rate is the true yearly rate once compounding is taken into account: EAR = (1 + r/n)n − 1. A 10% rate compounded quarterly has an EAR of about 10.38%, so it is what you actually earn in a year.

Can I add a fixed amount every month or year?

Yes. Enter a regular addition and choose monthly or yearly, and the calculator keeps adding that amount on top of your starting balance — each addition then earns compound interest for the time it stays invested. For example, starting with रु १,००० and adding रु १,००० every month at 10% for 5 years grows to far more than the principal alone, and the balance table shows how much of the growth is your own deposits versus interest.
