Free Nepal driving license test practice for the DoTM Likhit exam (लिखित परीक्षा) — covering both Category A (motorcycle & scooter, minimum age 16) and Category B (car, jeep, van and pickup, minimum age 18). The practice bank holds the complete published set of 500 official DoTM Category B questions — including the traffic-signal image questions 416–500 — plus curated practice questions and motorcycle-specific Category A questions, all with Nepali (नेपाली) and English text. The Likhit Pariksha is the first gate to a Nepali driving license. At the transport office you sit at a computer terminal, choose Nepali or English, and answer 25 multiple-choice questions in 30 minutes. The 25 questions always follow the same section split: 6 driving knowledge, 5 vehicle act & regulation, 3 technical/mechanical, 2 environment, 3 accident awareness and 6 traffic signals. Each correct answer earns 4 marks and you need 60/100 — at least 15 correct answers — to pass. Because the questions are drawn from the published bank, practising the official questions directly is the most reliable preparation there is: our Mock Exam mode reproduces exactly this distribution and timing.
Category A (मोटरसाइकल/स्कुटर) is the two-wheeler license, minimum age 16. Use the Category A toggle above to add motorcycle-specific questions: the helmet rule (mandatory for both rider and pillion, Rs. 500 fine), the maximum of two persons per motorcycle, front-brake technique (about 70% of stopping power), chain care, and pillion safety. Category B (कार/जीप/भ्यान) is the light four-wheeler license, minimum age 18, and its written exam draws from the published 500-question bank included here in full. A frequently tested rule: you must normally hold a smaller-vehicle license for two years before adding a larger category.
1. Apply online at the DoTM portal (applydlnew.dotm.gov.np) with a mobile number registered in your name; fill your details exactly as on your citizenship certificate and book an appointment slot.
2. Visit the transport office on the appointment day for document verification, biometrics (fingerprints, photo, signature) and the basic medical check — distance vision and colour recognition. Bring your original citizenship and the printed application.
3. Sit the Likhit exam — 25 questions, 30 minutes, result shown immediately. If you fail, you must wait for the re-application window (around three months in current practice) before trying again.
4. Pass the trial (practical) exam — scored out of 100 with a 70-point pass mark; you get up to three attempts on one application. Motorcycle candidates ride the balance track; Category B candidates complete the figure-of-eight, garage parking and the uphill start without rolling back.
5. Pay the license fee — currently Rs. 1,500 for Category A and Rs. 2,000 for Category B — and receive a temporary driving slip that is valid for driving in Nepal until the smart card arrives.
Most people who fail the written test can already ride or drive. What costs them marks is the traffic-sign section (6 of 25 questions — the single biggest block, and the easiest to prepare with the Signs tab above), the short mechanical section that many skip entirely, and misread "all of the above"-style options. The practice mode shows the correct answer with a bilingual explanation the moment you answer, tracks your weak questions in your browser, and lets you bookmark anything you want to revise the day before the exam. Aim for consistent mock scores above 80/100 before booking your exam date.
Nepal's road signs follow four families, and the exam expects you to recognise all of them: mandatory signs (blue circles — something you must do), prohibition signs (red circle or the octagonal STOP — something you must not do), warning signs (red-bordered triangles — a hazard ahead) and informatory signs (blue rectangles — services and information). The Signs tab shows each sign with its Nepali name and meaning, and the official image-based questions (Q416–500) appear in both Practice and Mock modes.
