Nepali Date Converter — BS to AD & AD to BS (नेपाली मिति परिवर्तन)

Free Nepali date converter: convert any date between Bikram Sambat (वि.सं.) and AD / English calendar (ई.सं.) instantly. Select a date and the converted date appears immediately, together with the weekday (बार) and the date written in numbers (YYYY-MM-DD) ready to paste into visa applications, passport forms, university applications, NOC requests and every other official document that asks for your date in "the other" calendar.

The conversion uses the official Bikram Sambat month-length table for २००० देखि २०९० साल (14 April 1943 – April 2034 AD) — the same data Nepali calendars (पात्रो) are printed from. BS months genuinely vary between 29 and 32 days and the same month changes length from year to year, so formula-based converters drift by a day; this one counts exact days against the table, the same engine that powers our Nepali Age Calculator.

How to convert a Nepali date

1. Choose the direction — वि.सं. → ई.सं. if you know the Nepali date, ई.सं. → वि.सं. if you know the English date.
2. Select the year, month and day. The day list adjusts automatically because BS months have 29–32 days.
3. The converted date appears instantly with the weekday in both languages, plus both dates in numeric form with one-click copy.
4. The आजको मिति (Today) button jumps back to today's date in both calendars.

Why do Nepali and English dates differ?

The Bikram Sambat calendar runs roughly 56 years and 8½ months ahead of the Gregorian (AD) calendar, and its new year starts in mid-April (१ बैशाख), not January. Because the two calendars' months never align, there is no fixed offset — १५ जेठ falls on a different English date every year. That's why government offices, banks and embassies always ask for an exact converted date rather than letting you "add 56/57 years".

Where you'll need this converter

Nepali documents (citizenship, SEE/NEB certificates, licenses) carry BS dates, while visa applications, foreign university forms, DV lottery entries and international employment paperwork demand AD dates — and vice versa for foreigners dealing with Nepali offices. Convert your date of birth, certificate issue dates, passport dates and appointment dates here, then check your exact official age with the Nepali Age Calculator, write amounts in words with the Number to Words converter, or prepare the document itself in Nepali Docs.

Everything runs in your browser — no date you enter is sent to or stored on any server.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is this BS to AD converter accurate for official documents?

Yes. It counts actual days against the official Bikram Sambat month-length table for २०००–२०९० साल — not an approximation formula. The same dates appear in printed Nepali calendars.

What date range does it support?

वि.सं. २००० बैशाख १ देखि २०९० चैत मसान्त सम्म — that is, 14 April 1943 to April 2034 in AD. This covers every date on documents in practical use today.

How many years is Bikram Sambat ahead of AD?

About 56 years 8.5 months. From १ बैशाख (mid-April) to 31 December the difference is 57 years minus ~8.5 months; from 1 January to चैत मसान्त it is 56 years plus ~3.5 months. Because the offset is not a whole number of years, exact conversion needs a table — which is what this tool uses.

Does it tell me the weekday (बार) of a date?

Yes — every conversion shows the weekday in both Nepali (आइतबार…शनिबार) and English, useful for checking what day you were born or planning around weekends.

Why does the day list sometimes stop at 29, 30, 31 or 32?

BS months really do vary between 29 and 32 days, and the same month can have different lengths in different years. The converter loads the true month length for the selected year, so an impossible date can never be entered.

Can I convert today's Nepali date?

Yes — today's date in both calendars is shown at the top, and the आजको मिति (Today) button fills it in with one click.
