How to extract text from a scanned PDF

Scanned documents are just images — you can't select or copy their text. This free OCR tool reads the text with optical character recognition right in your browser, so you can copy it or save it as a text file. It works in English and Nepali, which is perfect for Nepali documents, forms and notices.

  1. Select a scanned PDF, JPG or PNG.
  2. Choose the language — English, Nepali, or both.
  3. Click Extract Text, then copy the result or download it as a .txt file.

Frequently asked questions

Does it work with Nepali (Devanagari) text?

Yes. Choose "Nepali" or "Both" and it recognises Devanagari script as well as English.

Are my files uploaded?

No. The OCR runs entirely in your browser, so your document stays on your device.

Why is the first run slower?

The language data downloads once on first use and is then cached, so later scans are faster. OCR is also processor-heavy, so large documents take a little time.
