Free BMI calculator for Nepal: enter your height (in centimetres or feet–inches) and weight in kilograms, and instantly see your Body Mass Index, your weight category on both the WHO international scale and the WHO Asian-Pacific scale, the healthy weight range for your height, and exactly how many kilos separate you from it. BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)² — the screening measure doctors, insurance forms and fitness programmes worldwide use.
Why two scales? Research shows South Asians — including Nepalis — carry more body fat and face higher diabetes and heart-disease risk at a lower BMI than Europeans. The WHO therefore recommends the Asian cutoffs for our region: overweight starts at BMI 23 (not 25) and obesity at 27.5 (not 30). This calculator highlights the Asian category first because it is the one that matters for health decisions in Nepal.
| Category (वर्ग) | Asian cutoff (नेपाल) | WHO international |
|---|---|---|
| कम तौल — Underweight | < 18.5 | < 18.5 |
| सामान्य — Normal / healthy | 18.5 – 22.9 | 18.5 – 24.9 |
| बढी तौल — Overweight | 23 – 27.4 | 25 – 29.9 |
| मोटोपन — Obese | ≥ 27.5 | ≥ 30 |
1. Choose your height unit — cm or feet–inches (most Nepalis know their height in feet, e.g. ५ फिट ४ इन्च).
2. Enter your weight in kilograms.
3. Your BMI, category, position on the colour scale and healthy weight range appear instantly and update as you type.
Everything runs in your browser — your height and weight are never sent to or stored on any server.
BMI is a screening tool, not a diagnosis — it can't tell muscle from fat, so a fit, muscular person may read "overweight" while being perfectly healthy. If your BMI falls outside 18.5–22.9, treat it as a signal to look further: waist size (above ९० cm for men / ८० cm for women adds risk for South Asians), diet, and activity. For Nepalis and other South Asians, a healthy BMI is 18.5 to 22.9 under the WHO Asian-Pacific cutoffs. BMI 23 and above counts as overweight and 27.5 and above as obese — lower thresholds than the international scale because health risks start earlier in our population.
BMI = weight in kilograms divided by height in metres squared. For example, 60 kg at 1.65 m height gives 60 ÷ (1.65 × 1.65) = 22.0.
Yes. Switch to फिट–इन्च mode and enter, say, 5 feet 4 inches — it is converted to metres exactly (1 inch = 2.54 cm) before calculating.
BMI is a population-level screening measure. It over-reads for muscular people and under-reads for those with low muscle mass, and it isn't designed for pregnant women, children under 18 or adults over ~65. For children, doctors use age-specific BMI percentile charts instead.
