China has conveyed a message of solidarity with Nepal in the wake of the Bhote Koshi flood in Rasuwa, expressing sorrow over the damage Nepal has suffered in this disaster.
Chinese Ambassador Zhang Maoming delivered this message on Sunday during a meeting with Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle to hand over the aid amount pledged by the Chinese government to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. He conveyed messages from Chinese President Xi Jinping and Chinese Premier Li Qiang, affirming China’s support for Nepal during this calamity.
“Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang have expressed deep sorrow for the citizens who lost their lives in Nepal due to the flood disaster. They have offered their condolences to those who perished in the flood,” Ambassador Maoming stated, relaying the messages from the President and Premier. He added, “Nepal is not alone in this sorrow. China stands with Nepal and the Nepali people.”
Ambassador Maoming further stated that the Chinese government would continue its support for rescue and relief efforts following the disaster.
During his meeting with Finance Minister Dr. Wagle at the Ministry of Finance, Chinese Ambassador Zhang Maoming handed over a check for approximately 305 million Nepali Rupees (2 million US dollars).
Additionally, Ambassador Maoming also handed over a cash donation of 30.6 million Nepali Rupees (200,000 US dollars) provided by the Chinese Red Cross.
While handing over the relief funds, Ambassador Maoming stated that both countries would jointly face the disaster caused by the massive calamity in the Himalayan region, which has affected both Nepal and China. He informed that other types of aid materials announced by the Chinese government for Nepal have also started arriving.
Ambassador Maoming reported that on Sunday alone, two Chinese aircraft delivered 50 tons of relief materials, including tents, blankets, sleeping bags, medical kits, and biscuits, to Kathmandu. He affirmed that further assistance would continue.
He also informed Finance Minister Dr. Wagle that efforts are underway to bring back Nepalis stranded in China due to the Rasuwa flood via the Korala border point in Mustang.
Furthermore, Ambassador Maoming stated that skilled personnel, including a Chinese helicopter, arrived in Nepal on Saturday for the rescue of those trapped in the hydropower company’s tunnel. He added that more skilled rescue technicians arrived today.
He also informed that the Chinese government is working rapidly to bring large-capacity drones requested by the Nepal government for rescue operations.
